Ontario Agricultural College food economist Dr. Mike von Massow discussed the increase in tipping requests at retail and service outlets with several media outlets.

Speaking to The Globe and Mail, von Massow said aggressive prompts to tip will likely make customers feel uncomfortable because they have to explicitly opt out of tipping.

Von Massow also discussed the topic with Global News and Global News Morning Winnipeg. He said tipping has become more widespread since the start of the pandemic and tip prompting has become more aggressive.

A professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics, von Massow researches retail and restaurant food demand, supply chain management, and value chain structure and performance.
