Two U of G experts appeared on CBC Radio’s Quirks & Quarks program over the weekend to answer listener questions about science.

Prof. Ryan Gregory, Department of Integrative Biology, answered a question about why northern dogs such as huskies have blue eyes.

An evolutionary biologist, he studies genome evolution and how to improve teaching of genetic evolution in public schools.

Aaron Fairweather, an entomologist and a PhD student in U of G’s School of Environmental Sciences, answered a question about power dynamics in ant super-colonies.

Fairweather is completing their PhD with Profs. Nigel Raine, holder of the Rebanks Family Chair in Pollinator Conservation, and Jonathan Schmidt.

Fairweather was part of a team of U of G researchers working in a New Brunswick conservation area who discovered a rare variety of ant known for “enslaving” other ant species.
