Distance runners Ross Proudfoot and Carise Thompson have been named the University of Guelph’s Athletes of the Year for 2014-2015. They were among student athletes honoured at the Guelph Gryphons awards banquet held at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre March 26.

Proudfoot, a fifth-year human kinetics student, is a back-to-back winner, also receiving the award for the 2013-2014 season. In cross-country running, he won four gold medals in the 1,500- and 3,000-metre races at the Ontario University Athletic (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships. He was also named OUA and CIS most valuable athlete while leading the men’s team to its ninth consecutive national title.

Thompson, a fifth-year applied human nutrition student, won a CIS gold medal in the 1,500-metre race and was named CIS most valuable athlete in cross country while leading the women’s team to its 10th straight national title.
