Workplaces are playing a greater role in promoting positive mental health among employees. The Working Mind (TWM) is an evidence-based training developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada designed to provide practical knowledge and skills to address mental health in the workplace.
Participants will learn how to:
- Recognize the impact of stigma and discuss how to reduce it and other barriers within the workplace.
- Notice changes in their mental health and have conversations with colleagues, family, and friends.
- Identify and use available resources to help support themselves and others.
In this 2-part course there will be the following four modules covered:
- Module 1: Mental Health and Stigma. This will introduce participants to concepts of mental health, and it will discuss the impacts of stigma on people living with mental health or substance use problems.
- Module 2: The Mental Health Continuum. This will use the Mental Health Continuum Tool to help participants recognize and keep track of changes in their mental health; have conversations about mental health with colleagues and friends; and to know when to take appropriate actions or seek help.
- Module 3: Stress & Resilience. This will examine the impacts of stress on mental health and introduce participants to the Big 4 Coping Strategies. These techniques include simple, proven strategies that participants can use for stress reduction and increasing resiliency.
- Module 4: Supporting Your Team. This will build on the first three core modules and introduces team leaders to having healthy conversations with their team, using the Ad Hoc Incident Review (AIR), and supporting an employee when returning to work.
