Join Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators recipient Holly Chang and artists Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka, Joy Wong, Lan “Florence” Yee, and Justin Ming Yong for a free community meal.

Chang and the artists will each bring and share a dish that speaks to their own personal narratives and negotiations of belonging, collectively exploring ideas at the heart of the exhibition The Third Scenario. The program is geared towards adults and teens, though all are welcome. Please share allergies and dietary considerations; vegan and gluten-free options will be available. This is a nut-free event. Registration is required for this program as space is limited.

The Third Scenario is inspired by theorists such as Homi Bhabha and his concept of the Third Space that represents the interstices of colliding cultures, and John and Ruth Useem’s work investigating Third Culture Kids – those raised in a culture and nation separate from their parents’ culture and country of nationality for a significant part of their development. With a focus on the expression of hybridity, the exhibition refuses to settle in one world or another, crossing boundaries of identity and geography while transcending binary dichotomies of cultural heritage.
