Dr. Hafiz Maherali

Dr. Hafiz Maherali, a physiological and evolutionary ecologist in the College of Biological Science, commented to The Globe and Mail on research on mycorrhizal fungi networks in forests.

Maherali acknowledged that understanding how nature works is reason enough for making forestry conservation decisions, but noted other ecological reasons should take priority.

A professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, Maherali studies plant physiology and evolution, including nutritional symbiosis between plants and mycorrhizal fungi.
