Following a spike in the number of dead raccoons in Toronto, Dr. Scott Weese, a veterinary infectious disease specialist in the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), spoke with the Toronto Star about the risk of canine distemper in dogs.

Weese explained “the risk of dogs becoming ill with canine distemper is basically zero” because most dogs have received the highly effective vaccine against it.

Weese is a professor in the Department of Pathobiology, the chief of infection control at OVC and the director of the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses
