Dr. Evan Fraser

Comments by Dr. Evan Fraser, the director of U of G’s Arrell Food Institute, about the fragility of Canada’s food supply chain are featured in an article in the Financial Post.

The article noted that in testimony at the House agriculture committee last month, Fraser reflected on how crucial Canada’s rail lines are to this country’s food supply

“All of the food production in this enormous area the size of Europe is going through essentially a small number of rail lines and through a couple of passes,” he said, adding: “The system buckles. Every couple of years it buckles.”

Fraser helps lead the Food from Thought initiative and holds the Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security.
