College of Biological Science ecologist Dr. Shoshanah Jacobs discussed new research they led on how wildlife is affected by discarded personal protective equipment items with the Toronto Star.  

Jacobs said the public’s responses to the study, which includes photos of wildlife caught in items like masks, show “a significant amount of caring.” 

A professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, Jacobs researches the effects of plastics on ecosystems and wildlife, as well as biomimetics.
