Dr. Cynthia Scott-Dupree

Dr. Cynthia Scott-Dupree, a professor in the School of Environmental Sciences, spoke with The Weather Network about stink bugs and the dangers they pose to agriculture.

Scott-Dupree noted that brown marmorated bugs don’t bite, sting or cause damage to homes. But they do feed on about 170 species of plants, including agricultural crops, and are increasing in numbers in Canada.

“If we’re getting higher numbers of them as we head into fall, then there’s a bigger potential impact these insects could have in the agricultural sector,” she said.

Scott-Dupree’s research focuses on developing sustainable pest management for growers to control damaging and invasive insect pests using environmentally compatible control methods.
