Prof. Eric Lyons, Plant Agriculture, was interviewed by Sportsnet.ca on March 19 for an article on his efforts to develop a sustainable grass-growing system for the Toronto Blue Jays. Lyons, who studies turf production and athletic fields management, discussed the challenges involved with growing grass in an older stadium such as the Rogers Centre.

Prof. Jess Haines, Family Relations & Applied Nutrition, was interviewed as part of a panel of experts in the Globe and Mail on March 18. In the column, Haines was asked what she would recommend so that families cooked together more often. Haines studies methods of creating healthy families, and is one of the lead investigators of the Guelph Family Health Study.

Prof. Scott Weese, Pathobiology, was interviewed by CBC – The National for a story on March 17 relating to the increasing use of antibiotics in pets. Weese studies zoonotic diseases, which can go between different species. He discussed how animals do not require a prescription for antibiotics, which can lead to their overuse and disease-resistant superbugs.

Prof. Mike von Massow, Marketing & Consumer Studies, was interviewed by CBC on March 16 on the move by the Loblaws grocery chain to sell misshapen or small fruits and vegetables at a discounted rate. Von Massow, who studies food pricing, discussed how this can be a positive move for consumers and reduce food waste.
