Dr. Alan McDougall discussed the concept of “sportwashing” to i24news following criticism directed at professional golfers participating in a tournament in Saudia Arabia.  

“When nation-states realized that sport was also about making money and gaining political and cultural prestige, it was susceptible to washing,” McDougall said. 

McDougall is a professor in the Department of History and the European Studies program in the College of Arts whose research interests include the history of sport.
