The following information is provided by the Return to Campuses Steering Committee.

Stay Home if You’re Feeling Sick

It’s cold and flu season again (and we’re still in a pandemic). Remember, if you’re not feeling well, stay home. All those coming to campus must complete U of G’s COVID-19 Screening Form before coming to campus and follow its direction.

Students who need to miss a class or lab should contact their instructor. Medical notes are generally not required for one missed deadline or quiz; however, students may need to provide a note for multiple missed assessments or when a large part of a course is missed (e.g., final exam or major assignment). Check your course outline for more information.

NOTE (March 7, 2022): for the most up-to-date information on medical note requirement, please visit the What to do when you’re sick page.

Inclement Weather and University Closures During COVID-19

U of G has updated its Inclement Weather/Emergency Closing Procedures to account for COVID-19.

For 2021-22, if the University needs to curtail operations due to hazardous weather:

  • All classes, labs, tutorials and exams (both in-person and remote delivery) will be postponed.
Instructors: please note that other than during the final exam period, bookings in the Exam Centre need at least seven days lead-time for rescheduling.
  • Employees who are working remotely will continue to do so, to the extent feasible. Speak with your manager or supervisor about expectations during a closure.
  • Those designated as essential or required employees are required to report to their workplaces.

If the University needs to close due to inclement weather, the decision will be communicated through U of G Alert, on the intranet and on social media. The updated Inclement Weather/Emergency Closing Procedures Policy is available on the HR website.

Vaccination Required for In-person Learning

Only students who are fully vaccinated or who have received an approved exemption will be eligible to register for mandatory in-person winter 2022 courses. Students who register for in-person courses but who have not provided proof of full vaccination or who do not have an approved exemption will be removed from courses with mandatory in-person components. This process starts the week of Dec. 13.

Vaccination Requirements for Visitors, Volunteers and Contractors

In keeping with Ontario regulations and the University of Guelph’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, visitors, volunteers and independent and corporate contractors in U of G spaces must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Those with an approved medical exemption must receive a negative COVID-19 rapid test result no more than 72 hours before accessing U of G spaces.

Visitors: All U of G visitors aged 12 or older must attest to their vaccination status through the U of G COVID-19 Daily Screening Form.

Volunteers: All volunteers must provide proof of vaccination through the University of Guelph Vaccination Proof and Exemption System – Alternate Access.

Contractors:

Corporate Contractors: U of G has created a vaccination agreement for all corporate contractors. Under the agreement, corporate contractors are responsible for ensuring that their employees are fully vaccinated. More information can be found on the Doing Business with the University web page.

Independent Contractors: Those who are paid directly by U of G but who do not have central log-in credentials are considered independent contractors. Such individuals must provide proof of vaccination through the University of Guelph Vaccination Proof and Exemption System – Alternate Access.

If you are bringing contractors, volunteers or visitors to U of G locations, visit the Proof of Vaccination and Exemption Request page for more information on your responsibilities in ensuring that our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, including rapid testing for those with medical exemptions, is followed.
