The University of Guelph continues to prioritize physical distancing. If you don’t need to be on campus, please stay home to help keep our community safe. Staff, faculty and graduate students able to work from home will continue to do so.

Keeping our community safe this winter

After a very long semester, we’re all ready for a well-deserved winter break. If you are heading out of town between semesters, think about how you will protect yourself and our community.

Since October, the provincial government has encouraged Ontarians to limit close contact to just those people living in your own household and to stay two metres from everyone else. The government’s COVID-19 recovery framework places limits on the number of people who can gather in a home. That number depends on the public health area you’re in. Dr. Nicola Mercer, medical officer of health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, shared a letter to the community emphasizing the importance of following COVID-19 safety protocols.

Before you leave:

• Before you leave Guelph, consider limiting your interactions with others to avoid the risk of spreading COVID-19 to your family.

While you’re away:

• Follow the provincial government’s guidelines on social gatherings for the area you are visiting.

Coming back to Guelph:

• Before you come back to Guelph, check yourself for symptoms and stay home if you are unwell.
• When you return, you are strongly encouraged to isolate with the members of your household for two weeks to help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. Remember, those who have COVID-19 can spread the virus before they show any symptoms.

It will certainly be a different winter break than we’re used to, but together we can keep each other safe!

If you need to be on campus, make sure you complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form every day before you arrive.
