Thursday, June 25, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

U of G’s Live Work Well Research Centre is committed to anticipating and responding to the changing needs of families, livelihoods and living environments through research, teaching and knowledge sharing.

On June 25 from 11 a.m. to noon (EST) the Live Work Well Research Centre will host a free webinar discussing the impacts of the pandemic on poverty and housing.

In this hour-long webinar, entitled “From the Margins: Communities Respond to COVID-19”, we are seeking to elevate perspectives often excluded from dominant discussions on COVID-19.

The panelists will discuss the specific challenges their communities and organizations are facing due to COVID-19 and the social, political and economic conditions underlying these challenges. They will also share how they have responded to these challenges. Potential social issues explored in this webinar series include: housing and poverty; governance of public space; disability; food security; incarceration and institutionalization.

Panelists include:

  • Dominica McPherson, Coordinator, Guelph Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination
  • Tina Bophey, Guelph local resident and advocate, peer helper, Guelph Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination
  • Cory O’Handley, Director of Projects and Housing Development, Services and Housing in the Province (SHIP)
  • With contributions from Karen Metcalfe, Dufferin resident and advocate.

Tobin Haley, Assistant Professor, Community Studies, Cape Breton University will moderate.
