This event is free for everyone. All are welcome to attend. No previous yoga experience is required.

Join us on Johnston Green to Celebrate International Day of Yoga (IDY). Take part in a free Classical Yoga for Total Health & Awareness session from noon to 1 p.m.. Together, we’ll align with the global energies of IDY and the summer solstice. The Classical Yoga practice will be followed by a bring-your-own-lunch yoga picnic from 1 to 2 p.m.

Please bring a yoga mat, a non-plastic water bottle and picnic lunch. Have fun!

Classical Yoga is not only about Asanas (postures), it is also about deeply exploring the breathing, meditative and relaxation dimensions of this practice. This integrated approach moves the practitioner toward balance in all aspects – mental, emotional, physical, social and ecological – of his or her being. By practicing these Asanas, Pranayama, Meditation and Relaxation (and Mudras) techniques an inner awareness develops that gradually carries over into the daily life of the practitioner.

Regular Classical Yoga practice will help improve health, flexibility, strength and lead to a balanced, connected (improved relationships), focused, creative (successful), peaceful and joyful life.

U of G’s Classical Yoga for Total Health and Awareness Program celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It was originally started by professor emeritus and Order of Canada recipient O.P. Dwivedi. A series of events will be held throughout the year to mark the 10th anniversary, exploring the power and positive relationship of yoga and mental health in the context of life in the 21st century. Events will be shared through https://uoguel.ph/idy2019.

This event is sponsored by U of G’s Wellness@Work grant program.
