U of G Community Rallies for United Way, Showing That Better is Possible

The University of Guelph community once again came together in support of United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, meeting its fundraising campaign goal and helping strengthen local services.

This year, U of G rallied behind the many challenges facing the region, including food insecurity, housing pressures and mental health needs. Thanks to the generosity of nearly 600 donors, the U of G community met the campaign goal of raising $475,000. Every pledge, event and act of support played a role in improving life for the University’s neighbours.

“The University of Guelph plays an essential role in creating meaningful, lasting change in our community. Your partnership truly makes all the difference.  Thank you for your unwavering support of United Way and our community and your belief that better is possible.  Building community takes community—and together, we’re making a real difference,” says United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin Executive Director Glenna Banda.

This year’s campaign co-chairs were inspired by the generosity and participation of their U of G colleagues.

“Working with the campaign at this level has made it clear to me just how exceptional this community is,” said Dr. John Walsh, faculty co-chair of the campaign and professor in the College of Arts. “To see colleagues give so generously of their time, their energy and their resources in support of United Way speaks volumes about the character of our university. I am proud to stand alongside our volunteers, students, staff, faculty and retirees as we help Improve Life in our own community.”

Staff co-chair Erin Mancini couldn’t agree more. “What stood out to me was how many people said, ‘How can I help?’—and then rolled up their sleeves. Every bake sale, raffle, event and pledge brought us closer to our goal and supported neighbours who count on the United Way. I’m grateful to everyone who participated and so proud to be part of an institution that shows up for each other.”
