U of G Ranks Fifth in Canada for Life Sciences, Top 150 Worldwide 

The University of Guelph maintains strong rankings in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject.   

For the third year in a row, U of G has ranked in the top 150 in the world for life sciences, placing 126–150 out of more than 1,200 institutions in this category.   

Within Canada, U of G ranked fifth in life sciences, rising from sixth last year. 

The life sciences subject area includes the core disciplines of biological sciences, biology, biochemistry, agriculture and forestry, veterinary science and sport science.  

Within life sciences, U of G ranked fifth in Canada for research environment, which is reflective of an institution’s research reputation and productivity. The University also ranked  fourth in teaching, which measures the quality of a university’s learning environment. 

Maintaining its strong ranking across other subject areas, the University ranked among the top 75 globally and third in Canada for research quality in computer science. Research quality measures an institution’s citation impact, as well as the quality and influence of its research output.
