U of G wants to feature your art on our Black History Month assets!
Representation is incredibly important in shaping how Black history and culture are highlighted at U of G. That’s why we want to feature artwork from a Black artist on our Black History Month digital and print assets, such as social media posts, websites, and posters.
Have an idea of how you could create a piece of digital art that represents and celebrates the Black cultures and people at U of G?
Submit it by Dec. 7 and if your art is chosen, you could receive $1,000!
Contest rules:
- Entrants must identify as Black; priority will be given to submissions from University of Guelph students
- The individual who creates the chosen artwork will receive $1,000
- Four runner-ups will receive $250 each
- The selected artist grants the University of Guelph the rights to use the commissioned artwork in perpetuity for Black History Month promotions. The artist will be credited for their work on the central Black History Month page and other channels where fitting.
Submission guidelines
The contest submission can be concept art and does not have to be the complete final deliverables. Once the concept art is selected, the chosen artist will work with U of G to finalize the deliverables in the necessary formats.
- Please submit your concept art via the submission form by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 7.
- The artwork should incorporate U of G colours and be AODA compliant with sufficient colour contrast for text.
- The artwork must be adaptable to be used in a variety of digital and print assets with varying aspect ratios and sizes.
- The submission must incorporate the words “Black History Month.”
- The submission must include elements that relate to multiple Black cultural groups, or that are not specific to one cultural group.

- One detailed file that can stand on its own, at least 2,000 px wide and 1:1 ratio
- One smaller art mark that can be used in the corner of an asset
- Both files should be clearly visually connected to bring unity to all Black History Month assets
- The final files must be delivered as vector artwork
