Pathobiologist Dr. Scott Weese spoke to t the Toronto Star about  the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s recent import ban on dogs from 100 countries that have a high risk of rabies. 

Weese said the ban will reduce mass imports of dogs from foreign puppy mills and added “the number of the dogs coming to Canada has increased quite substantially over the last five years.” 

Weese is a professor in the Department of Pathobiology, the chief of infection control at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), and the director of the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses (CPHAZ). He researches infections in animals, emerging infectious diseases and infection control.
