The Banting Research Foundation is pleased to announce it will celebrate 100 years of successful biomedical Discovery granting in 2025! As such, a special public virtual panel discussion (including Q&A) will be held Nov. 6 at 7PM ET.

The panel will rediscover the legacy of Frederick Banting, examine his values of access and equity that have gone on to shape a century of work, and share exciting new discoveries.

U of G’s own Dr. Jennifer McAlister Geddes associate professor and Canada Research Chair of molecular & cellular biology, and director of bioinformatics (Laureate 2020) will be participating in this event.

Event Host: Dr. Gareth Lim associate professor of medicine and Canada Research Chair in adipocyte development at the University of Montreal. (Laureate 2017)

Meet our distinguished Discovery Award Laureate Panelists:

Dr. Jayne Danska immunologist and senior scientist in genetics and genome biology at the Hospital for Sick Children, professor of medicine and the Anne and Max Tanenbaum Chair in Molecular Medicine at the University of Toronto. (Laureate 1994)

Dr. Margaret Hahn, MD, PhD, FRCPC, clinician scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, professor of psychiatry, and the Kelly and Michael Meighen Chair in Psychosis Prevention at the University of Toronto. (Laureate 2013)

Dr. Jennifer McAlister Geddes associate professor and Canada Research Chair of molecular & cellular biology, and director of bioinformatics at the University of Guelph. (Laureate 2020)

Dr. Alanna Weisman, MD, PhD, FRCPC, clinician scientist and an endocrinologist at the Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes, and assistant professor of endocrinology at the University of Toronto. (Laureate 2021)
