Asian Heritage Month. Journeys of the Filipino Kundiman. May 25, 7:30 to 9:45 p.m., Arts research centre (Mackinnon room 113)

Join us at the upcoming “Journeys of the Filipino Kundiman” concert presented by the College of Arts at the University of Guelph in celebration of Asian Heritage Month!

On May 25, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., Filipina-Canadian Pianist and College of Arts Faculty Instructor Irene Gregorio, celebrated Filipino Tenor Sal Malaki (Los Angeles Opera and Los Angeles Master Chorale), and Violinist José Molina (Concertmaster of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra), will present a concert of Philippine Art Songs popularly known as “Kundiman,” a genre of romantic songs that arose out of encounters with Spanish rule and colonization for over 300 years and the Japanese and American occupation in the 1900s. The concert will be followed by a reception.

The event will be held in the Arts Research Centre (Room 113 of the MacKinnon Building at the University of Guelph) and will run until 9:45 p.m.
