Another member of Parliament has crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party. Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu joined Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government, becoming the fifth MP to cross the floor since Carney was elected and the fourth Conservative.
Her defection brings the Liberals to 171 seats, just short of 172 needed for a majority, with three byelections scheduled for Monday.
Dr. Julie Simmons, professor in the Department of Political Science, is available to discuss this latest move and how it will impact federal politics.
Simmons studies issues of democracy and accountability in federal-provincial relations and was a frequent commentator during the most recent Ontario and federal election cycles.
