Due to the increase in severity of the winter weather, the University of Guelph main campus is now closed Thursday, Jan. 15.
For any students, faculty and staff on campus, please use caution to make your way off campus.
All campus events have been cancelled for the remainder of today. Please reach out to event organizers directly with inquiries about rescheduling or restructuring of the event.
All classes and labs (in-person and remote delivery) are immediately cancelled for today. When the University reopens, instructors will have information on rescheduled tests and assignments.
Impact on Campus
Only those employees designated as essential workers per the Inclement Weather/Emergency Closing policy are expected to report to work on site.
Employees who are not designated as essential workers should – to the extent feasible – continue with or shift to remote work. Speak with your manager or supervisor about expectations during today’s closure.
All University buildings, labs and facilities are closed except for emergency services (Campus Safety Office and Fire Safety).
This closure extends to the following:
- Library
- University Centre
- All athletics and recreation facilities
- U of G will be monitoring conditions and may reopen fitness and recreation facilities later today. Please visit the Fitness and Recreation website for updates and more information.
- Ontario Veterinary College clinics (emergency service is still available)
- Health and Performance Centre. Clients with appointments will be contacted to reschedule.
- Student Support Network
- All other campus buildings and labs

Health services – Student Wellness Services – J.T. Powell Building
- Health Services (physician and nursing appointments) remain open
- Students with appointments will only be contacted to advise of any changes to their appointments (a change to virtual or option to re-schedule)
- Health Services Drop-in Clinic/Same Day in-person appointments will be offered unless otherwise stated.
- Appointments with Student Accessibility Services and Counselling Services will be offered virtually
