U of G Alumni Returning to Campus for Homecoming

A lot has changed since Jordan Gleed graduated from the University of Guelph in 2010. This Homecoming, he’s joining his classmates in rediscovering the connections and memories that make U of G feel like home.

The Bachelor of Commerce grad will celebrate with fellow alumni at U of G’s Homecoming game, marking 15 years since he and his friends bonded over Gryphon football and campus life.

“We’re looking forward to getting a group together and reminiscing about the fun times we had, while sharing U of G with our families,” says Gleed, who’s eager to explore the campus and see how it’s evolved since his student days.

“I’m sure it will look different, but I know in a lot of ways it will be quite familiar too. Back then, it felt like four years was a really long time. But the 15 years since graduation have flown by.”

U of G alumni will join current students, staff and faculty to cheer on the Guelph Gryphons when they take on the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, Oct. 4. Along with action on the gridiron, Homecoming will include a live halftime show, food trucks and more to celebrate Gryphons past and present.

Gleed’s reunion group and other Guelph grads will have the chance to reconnect with classmates and meet other Gryphon community members in the Alumni End Zone Party.

“Homecoming gives grads the chance to reconnect with classmates and relive the spirit of their time at U of G,” says Carly Blyth, associate director, Alumni Advancement in Alumni Affairs and Development. “It’s also a chance to build new connections and discover the many benefits of staying engaged — from exclusive offers to lifelong learning and professional development opportunities.”

The South End Zone of Alumni Stadium offers alumni an exclusive location to wear their Gryphon colours, take part in activities and enjoy the game. There are also snacks and drinks available throughout the day.

U of G will honour Serving Scholars as this year’s Community Hero at halftime. The first program of its kind in Ontario, Serving Scholars helps U of G student-reservists balance the demands of their military service while attending university. This can include everything from rescheduling assignments and exams to helping students find ways to tie their military service with academic courses and experiential learning opportunities.

Safety is a top priority at Homecoming and all U of G events. The University works closely with the City of Guelph, police and emergency services throughout Homecoming weekend. Campus Safety Officers will closely monitor campus, while Guelph police patrol neighbourhoods to ensure the safety of our students and community during the festivities.

U of G community members are encouraged to download the SafeGryphon App, which sends out emergency notifications and offers an interactive map of campus. U of G also has tips and information for students to foster a safe community throughout Homecoming weekend.
