Some rescue dogs are bringing with them infectious diseases, the Toronto Star reported, speaking with veterinary infectious disease specialist Dr. Scott Weese on the issue.

Weese said it’s becoming increasingly common to see rescue dogs with diseases. Because they can be highly contagious, good communication and swift action are essential to avoid outbreaks.

The chief of infection control at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) and a professor in the Department of Pathobiology, Weese researches bacterial infections in animals and humans, emerging infectious diseases and infection control.
