Can employees be fired for joining protests like the one under way on Parliament Hill? 

Human resources expert Dr. Nita Chhinzer provided some thoughts in an article in the Toronto Star.  

If the employee is advocating for their beliefs on their own time and detached from the organization they work for, employers should not interfere in most cases, Chhinzer told the paper. 

A professor in the Department of Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, Chhinzer studies strategic human resources management, including procedures and ethics.
