The University of Guelph will commence a search for its tenth Chancellor this fall and is calling for nominations for faculty, staff and student members of the selection committee.
The selection committee will be chaired by President Charlotte Yates and will be responsible for recommending a nominee to the University’s Senate, which holds the responsibility for appointing the Chancellor.
The Chancellor serves as the ceremonial head of the University and fulfills a range of duties, including sitting on both the Board of Governors and Senate. The Chancellor also presides over convocation ceremonies, confers degrees, and plays a central role in connecting the University and the broader community. As the search progresses, faculty, staff, students and alumni will be invited to help identify characteristics the selection committee should prioritize in building a profile for the University’s next Chancellor.
In keeping with Senate regulations, the selection committee comprises a cross-section of University community members as follows:
- President & Vice-Chancellor (Chair)
- Three tenured faculty members (librarians are also eligible)
- Two undergraduate students
- One graduate student
- One regular full-time staff member
- One member of the Board of Governors (appointed by the Board)
- One member of the alumni community (appointed by the University of Guelph Alumni Association)
Nominations are now open for the faculty, staff and student seats on the committee. The call for nominations and nomination form are available online.
The deadline for submitting nominations to the University Secretariat is Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 1 p.m.
