Dr. Maya Goldenberg, a professor in the Department of Philosophy, appeared on CBC Radio’s Cross Country Checkup to discuss the confusing messages about which of the COVID-19 vaccines are considered “safe.”

Goldenberg, who specializes in the philosophy of science and medicine, said for those who are hesitant to get vaccines, it doesn’t matter if they’re told that vaccines are safe for everybody; those who are hesitant need to be assured it’s same for them.

She also explained that for those who have any kind of discontent around government and institutional structures, that unease is then projected onto their trust in vaccines.

Goldenberg’s new book, Vaccine Hesitancy: Public Trust, Expertise, and the War on Science, was released earlier this spring.
