Dr. Claudia Wagner-Riddle, a professor in the School of Environmental Sciences, appeared on CBC’s The National to discuss new farming approaches that are helping to slow climate change.

An article also appeared on CBC News Online.

Wagner-Riddle demonstrated ongoing U of G research into cover crops, which reduce soil erosion and capture nutrients for the next crop, noting it’s an important method for soil carbon sequestration.

Wagner-Riddle researches climate-smart soils that can capture carbon dioxide, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enable farmers to mitigate climate change while growing crops.

She is currently involved in a six-year soil research project funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) to address a growing need for sustainable agriculture experts that preserves soils and ensures resilience to climate change.
