Prof. Merritt Turetsky, Department of Integrative Biology, was interviewed on CBC Radio’s The Current to discuss the decision by 11,000 scientists around the world to sign a letter that declares climate change a global emergency.

Turetsky described some of the climate changes she has witnessed during her work studying the thawing of permafrost in boreal regions and the impact of wildfires. She said she believes “there is still hope” that the effects of climate change can be stopped and many other scientists do too, which is why so many are speaking about the need to take the issue seriously.

Turetsky is an ecosystem ecologist who holds the Canada Research Chair in Integrative Ecology and studies the resilience of ecosystems to environmental change.
