Posters Removed From Campus

University of Guelph cornerstoneNumerous posters found on the University of Guelph campus today were removed after being  deemed disrespectful to University members, especially Muslim, Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities. Similar posters have also been reported in other Guelph locations.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Campus Community Police at Ext. 52245.

“U of G is a community committed to civility and mutual respect and, as such, will not tolerate disrespectful or hurtful actions,” said Brenda Whiteside, associate vice-president (student affairs).

The University publicly declared its commitment to being an inclusive campus earlier this year in a special resolution that was unanimously approved by Senate Feb. 6. The resolution acknowledged the University’s diverse population and stated that “every member of an inclusive campus is a valued contributor.”

“This is a community that respects the rights of all its members,” Whiteside said. “We must continue to work together to uphold our core values and beliefs around inclusivity.”
