Computing and Communications Services will be upgrading various components of the telephone system. These components include the underlying call control software, the backup auto-attendant software used at the Guelph, Kemptville and Ridgetown campuses, as well as the call centre software used by a number of departments on campus. In addition to software upgrades, hardware will also be replaced, reducing operational requirements by replacing Windows-based solutions with appliance-based solutions.
Telephone firmware will be upgraded from March 29 to 31 between 6 and 8 a.m. During the upgrade process, the phones will restart, begin downloading the software, install the software and restart once again. The phones will be unavailable for approximately five to 10 minutes during each upgrade event. Some phone settings will be reset, including the missed, received and placed calls log. Off-campus calls may be interrupted as off-campus telephone trunks are upgraded.
Migration to the new telephone system will be completed on May 7 and 8.
