SUMMARY:Tynecastle Park\, Edinburgh - The future of football architecture?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating talk on historical and recent events in Scottish football architecture. \nFocusing on Edinburgh’s Tynecastle Park\, the key issue is the survival of historical inner-city sports arenas and the quest to make football architecture more sustainable. The talk also highlights the importance of Archibald Leitch\, the Scotsman who defined modern football architecture more than any other individual in the UK. The talk will briefly address some cultural connections between Scotland and the Norwegian south-west coast\, where the guest speaker grew up. \nEven Smith Wergeland is an associate professor at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Norway. His main fields of teaching are architectural history and architectural preservation. He directs the school’s executive master’s programme in architectural heritage and is currently the head of the Oslo Centre for Critical Architectural Studies. His research covers a number of topics\, including urban mobility\, garden cities\, sports architecture\, cultural heritage and contemporary venues for cultural production. \nThis event will be hosted live on Zoom and the link will be posted on the Eventbrite page and emailed to all registered attendants 24 hours before the event begins. \nThe event is sponsored by the Centre for Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph. \nEvent image: Hearts vs Tottenham at Tynecastle Park\, August 11\, 2011.
