SUMMARY:Virtual Propagating Plants from Cuttings
DESCRIPTION:Cuttings are a great way to propagate all kinds of plants including perennials\, trees\, shrubs and houseplants. This workshop will look at different ways to propagate cuttings and compare them to using seeds. Most of the time will be spent on techniques that use media other than water. \nWe’ll distinguish between softwood\, semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings. Have a look at different media and examine the role of rotting hormones\, both commercial and DIY options. \nThe speaker will show you his simplified method that is great for gardeners since it requires no special equipment. \nFee: $10 (plus HST) per person.

SUMMARY:ArcGIS Pro 2 – More Analysis in GIS: Data Skills
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we’ll learn further GIS tools\, work with tables\, and begin working with raster data. Participants are expected to have strong familiarity with ArcGIS before registering in this workshop. \nArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS); a software program for working with maps and geographic data. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place…). ArcGIS is available on all the Library computers\, and also available for download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. \nPlease note: \nYou must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. When you register for this workshop you are committing to attend the entire workshop unless you confirm otherwise with the instructor. This workshop allows limited attendees. If you are suddenly not able to attend\, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on our waiting list. \nYou must have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer prior to the workshop AND you must log into ArcGIS Online to create a U of G account in order to access ArcGIS Pro. You will not have time during the session to install the software or troubleshoot account issues. You must attend this workshop on a computer (not a mobile device). We cannot troubleshoot software or installations during the session. If you are unable to install the software please contact the presenter so we can give your seat to someone on the waiting list. You will find you are able to participate more fully if you have a 2nd screen on your computer. \nIf you have any issues with your install\, please contact the IT Help Desk.  \nThis workshop will take place online. A reminder email with the meeting link will be emailed to you 24 hours before the workshop.

SUMMARY:Love Data Week: Strengthening Ethical Research through Informed Consent
DESCRIPTION:The informed consent process underpins the ethical conduct of human participant research. During Love Data Week\, we are celebrating how this process helps nurture transparency in the research process\, protect participant rights\, and safeguard data/information. Just as love thrives on trust and respect\, a robust and ongoing consent process clarifies researcher responsibilities and fosters a healthy research environment. Consent template resources will be shared with attendees and there will be an opportunity for Q&A with Research Ethics staff. \nJoin us in this special Love Data Week presentation to learn more about how ethical practices in research can “love” and protect the data that drives impactful discoveries!

SUMMARY:Write to Publish: Rewriting your literature review as a review article
DESCRIPTION:Yes—you can publish your work in a refereed journal before your results or main arguments are ready. Unlike an original research article\, a review article offers a synthesis of previous research on a particular topic without introducing new findings. This workshop will cover how to transform your literature review into a journal-worthy article. We’ll discuss the various types of review articles\, and using authentic texts\, demonstrate how to organize your review and frame conclusions based on insights from existing studies. \nThis workshop is held online. You will be given the link 1-2 days before the event. \nWrite to Publish is a 3-part series. SUMMARY:Intro to GIS using ArcGIS Pro: Data Skills
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will learn how to navigate ArcPro\, kinds of GIS data\, how to add data to a map\, basic symbology\, and labelling\, how to filter data\, and how to create a finished map. \nArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS); a software program for working with maps and geographic data. ArcGIS Pro is the desktop mapping software of ArcGIS. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude / longitude\, census locations\, name of a place\, etc.). ArcPro is available for download to the University community. \nIf you have any issues installing ArcGIS Pro please contact the IT Help Desk. \nPlease note: this workshop will take place online. A reminder email with the meeting link will be emailed to you 24 hours before the workshop.
