SUMMARY:Composting for Gardeners - Composting Piles\, Bins and Drums (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The previous workshop provided information about the composting process. This workshop is more hands on and looks at various methods for completing both hot and cold composting. Hot composting is the traditional method using one or more bins. This is a great system that makes faster compost\, but it is impractical for smaller gardens. Various plastic bins and drums are more suitable there. We’ll have a look at various commercial and DIY systems. \nAt the end of this course you will be able to select the right composting system that meets your requirements and you will know how to start the process\, care for it\, and what to do with the finished compost. \nIf you are going to take this course it is a good idea to also take Introduction to Composting for Gardeners. \nFee: $10 (plus HST) per person.

SUMMARY:Countering Policy Exclusions: Canada\, disability\, and international commitments
DESCRIPTION:Canada has signed and ratified key international agreements including on disability\, Indigenous rights\, race\, the environment\, economic and social rights and others. Reports from civil society organizations and researchers suggest that the implementation of these agreements is only partial\, resulting in fewer supports and services for people with disabilities in Canada and abroad\, and more people becoming disabled. \nJoin a conversation with civil society leaders and researchers about the implications for people with disabilities of Canada’s failure to implement international agreements\, and the role of women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people with disabilities in leading responses to these failures. \nRegister to receive the Zoom link. \nThis event is the first in a series co-hosted by the Live Work Well Research Centre (liveworkwell.ca) and Dr. Leah Levac’s Canada Research Chair in Critical Community Engagement and Public Policy. Watch for other upcoming events on the topic of Countering Policy Exclusions.

Participants are expected to have strong familiarity with ArcGIS before registering in this workshop. \nArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS); a software program for working with maps and geographic data. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place…). ArcGIS is available on all the Library computers\, and also available for download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. \nPlease note: \nYou must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. When you register for this workshop you are committing to attend the entire workshop unless you confirm otherwise with the instructor. This workshop allows limited attendees. If you are suddenly not able to attend\, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on our waiting list. \nYou must have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer prior to the workshop AND you must log into ArcGIS Online to create a U of G account in order to access ArcGIS Pro. You will not have time during the session to install the software or troubleshoot account issues. You must attend this workshop on a computer (not a mobile device). We cannot troubleshoot software or installations during the session. If you are unable to install the software please contact the presenter so we can give your seat to someone on the waiting list. You will find you are able to participate more fully if you have a 2nd screen on your computer. \nIf you have any issues with your install\, please contact the IT Help Desk.  \nThis workshop will take place online.
