DESCRIPTION:Learn how to “pitch” your research! Share your complex ideas effectively in a concise format and/or practice presenting your research to an audience. To help you prepare\, we are offering an interactive workshop series. \nRegister now to participate in one or both workshops. \n\nWorkshop 1 – Preparing Your Pitch [ONLINE] : February 11\, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.\nLearn about the benefits of 3MT\, how to organize and draft your pitch\, follow the principles of good slide design\, and develop your presentation skills.\n\n\nWorkshop 2 – Presentation Practice and Feedback [HYBRID] : March 11\, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.\nWorkshop your script\, get feedback from experts\, and refine your slide design.\n\nWorkshop facilitators: Dr. Jodie Salter (University of Guelph Library\, Writing Specialist); Jason Dodd (University of Guelph Library\, Science Learning Specialist); and Jessie Kennedy (Manager\, John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise). \n3MT is a university-wide competition for graduate students. Participants present their research\, creative activity\, and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less in an engaging\, accessible\, and compelling way using only one slide. It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop your public speaking skills and share your research with a broader audience. \nFor students interested in participating in 3MT competitions\, the 2025 college heats and the university-wide 3MT competition will take place between the end of March and mid-April 2025. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, April 2\, 2024\, from 3 to 5 p.m. as we launch our newest exhibition\, Cooking Up History: 30 Years of the Culinary Historians of Canada. \nThis exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Culinary Historians of Canada and the inductees of Taste Canada’s Hall of Fame. Cookbooks written by some of Canada’s most beloved food writers\, chefs\, and television personalities will be highlighted. Published between 1854 and 2021\, the thirty-five books on display—one by each of the Hall of Fame inductees—were drawn from U of G’s Culinary Collection\, housed in the McLaughlin Library’s Archival & Special Collections. \nThis exhibition was curated in part as an experiential learning project by students in Dr. Rebecca Beausaert’s Food History course and in Melissa McAfee’s Behind the Scenes in Archival and Rare Book Collections course – a collaboration between U of G’s Department of History in the College of Arts and the McLaughlin Library. \nAt the launch\, you’ll hear from keynote speakers including: \n\nChef Jamie Kennedy\, Jamie Kennedy Kitchens\nFiona Lucas\, Food Historian and Co-Founder\, Culinary Historians of Canada\n\nLight refreshments will be served. \nKindly RSVP by no later than Wednesday\, March 27\, 2024. \nThe online version of the launch will be held via Zoom.

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to “pitch” your research! Participating in this workshop series will help you better articulate complex ideas effectively in a concise format and prepare you to share your research in a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. \nTo help students prepare a 3-minute research “pitch\,” we are hosting two interactive workshops facilitated by Dr. Jodie Salter (University of Guelph Library\, Writing Specialist)\, Jason Dodd (University of Guelph Library\, Science Learning Specialist) and Jessie Kennedy (Manager\, John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise). \nRegister on Qualtrics for this event. \nDuring this workshop series\, you will learn how organize your pitch\, follow the principles of good slide design\, and receive valuable feedback on your presentation. \nBoth workshops will be held in-person in MINS 129 and online via TEAMS.
