DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Turfgrass Institute (GTI) is hosting a public Field Day to celebrate the grand opening of the new G. M. Frost Research and Information Centre. Turfgrass professionals and homeowners are invited to attend\, tour the research plots and talk with turfgrass researchers and experts on-site. \nGuelph Turfgrass Institute Opening Public Field Day\nSeptember 16\, 2022\n1 – 5 p.m.\n364 College Avenue East\, Guelph ON (free parking)\nFree event. RSVP required: https://uoguel.ph/field \nThe new GTI grounds are approximately 17 acres with 14 research plots featuring different turfgrass cultivars\, mowing heights and soil types. The new research plots feature a variety of turfgrass species and several rootzone specifications to ensure studies benefit golf course superintendents\, sod farmers\, sport field managers and lawncare providers. Guided tours will start at 1:30 p.m. and run every hour. \n“We’re excited to welcome members of the turfgrass industry to tour our new site and building\,” says Dr. Eric Lyons\, Director of the GTI. “This event also marks the 35th Anniversary of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute\, so we’re excited for the opportunity to reconnect with the hundreds of turfgrass alumni who studied in our previous facilities. I hope to see lots of them at the event; the research we’re undertaking is of real value to them and the industry.”

See new perennials and annuals that plant breeders from around the world have sent us to evaluate for growth performance in southern Ontario. This weekend’s Open House is taking place on the grounds of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute at the University of Guelph. \nIn addition to new plant evaluations\, several other events will also take place. \n\nHouseplant sale and swap: Two of our student employees with a specific interest in indoor plants will be hosting a houseplant sale and swap. This will be taking place in the Frost Centre\, right beside the Trial Garden. Those interested in buying\, selling or trading indoor plants can participate in this unique event. Anyone interested in being a “vendor” can contact Olivia at pareo@uoguelph.ca. Anyone interested in increasing their plant collection is invited to simply come along and visit us (cash sales only\, please).\nMonarch butterfly rearing: A monarch butterfly rearing specialist will be on hand at the trial garden site to demonstrate her techniques and answer questions.

DESCRIPTION:Dates / Times: Friday\, Aug. 19 – 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday\, Aug. 20 – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.\nLocation: Guelph Turfgrass Institute\nCost:  Free\n\nThe Guelph Turfgrass Institute and the Department of Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph are pleased to invite the public to the 2016 Trial Garden open house at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute at 328 Victoria Road South in Guelph.\n\nVisit anytime during the two days to visit the trials and see the new annuals and perennials that will be in the marketplace in the coming years and\, as always\, vote on your favourites.  There is also a small vegetable trial patch with some new eggplants\, peppers and tomatoes; as long as supplies last there will be opportunities for taste testing.\n\nThere will be the opportunity to participate in a consumer preference study run by a researcher from the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.  Help us discover what flower colours\, flower patterns and plant textures people like. The Trial Garden is also interested in seeing what types of pollinators visit the various trial flower entries in the garden.  If you are a fan of “citizen science” and enjoy observing and identifying insect pollinators etc. we look forward to your participation.\n\nThe Guelph Wellington Master Gardeners will also be on hand to answer your gardening and trial garden questions.  If you have more questions about the free event feel free to contact Rodger Tschanz at 519-241-9536 or rtschanz@uoguelph.ca.\n
