SUMMARY:Write to Publish: Rewriting your literature review as a review article
DESCRIPTION:Yes — you can publish your work in a refereed journal before your results or main arguments are ready. Unlike an original research article\, a review article offers a synthesis of previous research on a particular topic without introducing new findings. This workshop will cover how to transform your literature review into a journal-worthy article. We’ll discuss the various types of review articles and using authentic texts\, demonstrate how to organize your review and frame conclusions based on insights from existing studies. \nThis workshop will be held in person in McLaughlin Library\, Room 384. You’ll receive a reminder 1-2 days before the event. \nWrite to Publish is a 4-part series. Please register for the sessions you plan to attend: \n\nWriting Titles and Abstracts (May 20)\nWriting Introductions (May 26)\nRewriting Your Literature Review as a Review Article (June 2)\nWriting Book Reviews (June 3)\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:ArcGIS Pro 2 - More Analysis in GIS: Data Skills
DESCRIPTION:Workshop registration will open 4 weeks before the workshop. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll learn further GIS tools\, work with tables\, and begin working with raster data. Participants are expected to have strong familiarity with ArcGIS Pro before registering in this workshop. \nArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS); a software program for working with maps and geographic data. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place…). ArcGIS is available on all the Library computers\, and also available for download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. \nPlease note: \nYou must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. When you register for this workshop you are committing to attend the entire workshop unless you confirm otherwise with the instructor. This workshop allows limited attendees. If you are suddenly not able to attend\, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on our waiting list. \nYou must have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer prior to the workshop AND you must log into ArcGIS Online to create a U of G account in order to access ArcGIS Pro. You will not have time during the session to install the software or troubleshoot account issues. You must attend this workshop on a computer (not a mobile device). We cannot troubleshoot software or installations during the session. If you are unable to install the software please contact the presenter so we can give your seat to someone on the waiting list. You will find you are able to participate more fully if you have a 2nd screen on your computer. \nIf you have any issues with your install\, please contact the IT Help Desk. \nThis workshop will take place online. A reminder email with the meeting link will be emailed to you 24 hours before the workshop.

SUMMARY:Virtual Tree Identification
DESCRIPTION:Do you love trees but can’t tell an Ash from a Walnut\, a Birch from a Beech\, or a Spruce from a Fir? Are you looking to connect more with the natural world around you? Join Shelley Hunt\, U of Guelph course instructor and former Arboretum Director\, for a virtual\, interactive tree identification workshop. Over the course of four Zoom sessions\, with hands-on challenges to complete in between\, you will learn the basics of tree ID\, with a focus on native Ontario species (and their look-alike non-native counterparts). You will learn about the important features to look for (e.g. leaf shape and arrangement\, bark characteristics\, fruits and cones)\, as well as the details that help us to distinguish between species in the same group (e.g. Ashes\, Pines\, Maples). You will practice your skills on trees that you can find in your local area\, and get feedback on your ‘homework’. The fourth session will include a virtual tour of trees in The Arboretum’s collections. \nPlease Note: This course is only on-line. A separate in-person course is also available on June 19.\nWe also send recordings out after each session\, so if you miss a session you can watch the recording. The recordings are available for one month after the end of the workshop.\nWednesdays\, May 21\, 28\, June 4 and 11\, 2025 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.\nFee: $50 (plus HST) per person.
