The art installation\, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, and poster competition\, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.\, will take place in the Arts Research Centre (ARC) lobby. \nThe competition will be followed by a welcome by College of Arts Dean Samantha Brennan. Guests will then be invited to listen to remarks by University of Guelph President Charlotte Yates. We will focus on songs and some common\, distinctive calls and will apply different methods to remember them. Learn how to make your own calls\, read a sonogram\, make up your own memorable bird song sayings\, and more! Then we will look at photographs of several fascinating objects inside these constellations\, with photographs taken by talented local astrophotographers. We’ll cap off the evening by observing a few of these objects with telescopes. DESCRIPTION:This workshop for faculty shares approaches to providing feedback on academic writing projects such as theses and dissertations. \nWe discuss ways to anticipate and prepare for the challenges that graduate writers\, including writers for whom English is an additional language (EAL)\, may experience as they receive\, interpret\, and respond to feedback. We show how you can support your graduate students throughout the writing process and provide meaningful feedback under time constraints by approaching feedback as both a teacher and a researcher. In particular\, we focus on discourse analysis as a feedback tool which moves away from deficit thinking about EAL users.
