DESCRIPTION:As we transition from the holiday season\, re-establishing our regular routines and reintegrating physical activity can be a daunting task. If you’re unsure where to begin and seek a sustainable approach to exercise\, join HPC’s physiotherapy fellows for an informative talk! During this session\, facilitators will guide you on safely elevating your physical activity levels throughout the winter months\, ensuring it feels good for your body and is manageable in the long run. \nThis workshop will focus specifically on: \n-Setting SMART exercise goals (What is a ‘good’ goal?)\n-Building an exercise program – how to exercise properly and safely\n-Recommendations for exercise (Canadian Guidelines for aerobic and resistance exercises)\n-Answering questions related to these topics \nJoin HPC’s physiotherapy experts by registering now! You can submit questions when you register that will be answered during the talks. \nLearn more about the facilitators: \nJulie Morrow:\nAfter completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto\, Julie attended McMaster University for the Master of Science in Physiotherapy program. She is hoping to integrate both her clinical and personal experiences to provide high-quality\, patient-centred care at the HPC. Julie has always had an interest in sports\, being a competitive athlete and dancer for many years. She is especially interested in the treatment and management of sport-related concussions and vestibular rehab. Julie will be working with many varsity teams this season\, including the soccer\, rugby\, basketball\, volleyball\, and wrestling teams. \nBrittany Emary:\nBrittany recently graduated from the Master of Science in Physical Therapy program at the Univerisity of Toronto. Her educational journey began with a foundation in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph. With a passion for helping individuals achieve their optimal physical health\, Brittany is thrilled to return to the HPC team\, where she previously volunteered. As a physiotherapy resident at the HPC\, she is committed to delivering high-quality care and rehabilitation services.In addition to her role at HPC\, Brittany is working with a range of University of Guelph varsity sports teams\, including swimming\, basketball\, rugby\, and hockey. Having played soccer and basketball\, her background and passion for sports have given her a unique insight into the challenges athletes face and the importance of a comprehensive rehabilitation approach. Brittany’s commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle extends beyond her professional life as she enjoys running\, hiking\, tennis\, golf\, fitness classes\, and yoga. In her treatment plans\, Brittany combines her clinical expertise with a holistic approach\, incorporating manual therapy\, exercise prescription\, and patient education. Brittany utilizes a collaborative approach to help patients achieve their goals. She firmly believes that empowering her patients with knowledge about their conditions and the rehabilitation process is key to their success in regaining mobility\, strength\, and overall well-being. \nAbout the HPC\nProviding high-performance injury recovery right in the heart of campus. The Health and Performance Centre (HPC) is located in the J.T. Powell Building and prevents and treats sports and activity-related injuries for the University of Guelph and the surrounding community. This can lead to physical and mental health problems and a lack of fulfilment\, affecting our well-being. \nIn this workshop participants will learn why we are disconnected from the body and how to reconnect and awaken our body’s wisdom to heal supporting our health and well-being. Emerging insights on neurobiological mechanisms underlying recovery will also be discussed. There will be a period for Q&A\, feedback\, and a quick summary of potential future programs and the methods for follow-up. Bring your own yoga mat. DESCRIPTION:The Landscape Architecture program in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development presents a guest lecture entitled “Matters of Ground\,” by Dr. Rosalea Monacella\, a Design Critic in Landscape Architecture at Harvard University\, Graduate School of Design. \nRosalea is also a registered Landscape Architect and has undertaken research on a number of cities around the world\, generated urban masterplans for cities in China\, USA\, South America\, Europe and Australia that explore design at the nexus of the urban and natural environments\, and has been the recipient of a number of national and international awards and grants related to her practice-based research as co-founder of the OUTR Research Lab at RMIT University Melbourne\, Australia.
