DESCRIPTION:Guelph Arts Council is pleased to collaborate with the Art Gallery of Guelph and the University of Guelph’s School of Fine Art and Music in presenting Opportunity Knocks: Visual Arts & Music\, an evening of conversation with experienced arts managers and artists that will help visual artists and musicians put their best foot forward in finding and responding to creative opportunities. \nArtists of all ages and experience levels are welcome. \nThe three-hour session begins at 6 p.m. on Nov. 9\, 2017 at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, 358 Gordon St\, Guelph\, and includes a panel discussion\, concurrent break-out sessions for visual artists and musicians\, and networking. The break-out sessions will be led by Carmen Spada (music)\, and John Kissick and Barbara Hobot (visual arts). The panel discussion will also feature Shauna McCabe\, Executive Director\, Art Gallery of Guelph\, and Petra Nyendick\, Executive Director\, Silence. Presenter bios are posted at guelpharts.ca. \nThe session is presented in association with the Guelph Young Artist Mentorship Project\, a GAC/SOFAM partnership that is made possible with support from the Ontario150 Partnership Program. Using stories and research\, Kortes-Miller extends an invitation to view death as not a taboo subject – but rather a shared life experience. She will explain that death is not a medicalized event but a social process and will offer some practical suggestions for having discussions about dying with those we love. \nFree event – RSVP by emailing frandept@uoguelph.ca. \nThe Harshman Lecture Series is a speaker series presented by the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition in honour of the late Dr. J.
