SUMMARY:Together: An Exhibition on Global Development
DESCRIPTION:In April 2015\, the Aga Khan Foundation Canada launched an innovative\, mobile exhibition to stimulate conversation about Canada’s role in reducing global poverty. The exhibition provides interactive learning opportunities based on personal exploration and inquiry\, encouraging visitors to think critically about global development and their role as active global citizens. The exhibition will inspire visitors to explore solutions to improving quality of life in the developing world. \nThe bilingual exhibition is housed in a 53-foot double-expandable vehicle (approximately 1\,000 square feet) and runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14 and 15. \nThe exhibition features: \n\n\npowerful photography\, film and audio that transport visitors around the globe;\n\nunique objects that provide tangible connections to innovative solutions;\n\n\na quiz that enables visitors to discover what kind of global citizens they are and how to get involved;\n\n\nan interactive world map that illuminates diverse Canadian contributions to global development; and\n\n\nopportunities for visitors to share their ideas and experience with one another and with their social networks.\n\n\n\nVisitors will leave the exhibit not only with a better understanding of global development but also with examples of the ways in which they can build on their own skills and interests to take action. DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Cardiovascular Investigations will launch a Distinguished Scientist Lecture series with nationally renowned cardiologist Dr. Gavin Oudit. \nA staff cardiologist and clinician-scientist at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute\, University of Alberta\, he will focus his talk on “Translational Approaches for Novel Heart Failure Therapies: Time for Personalized Medicine?” \nHis presentation will begin with an introduction by Malcolm Campbell\, vice-president research\, University of Guelph. \nOudit’s research activities are diverse with a primary emphasis on heart failure and arrhythmias. His clinical activity focuses on heart failure\, which includes patients with iron-overload cardiomyopathy\, Fabry’s disease\, metabolic disorders and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy.
