SUMMARY:Guelph Food Safety Seminars 19th Annual Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 19th (and 3rd virtual) Guelph Food Safety Seminars (GFSS) Symposium.\nInflation: The New Foodborne Illness? \nWhat effect does inflation have on the safety and security of our food? Composed of a series of seminars\, this year’s Symposium will examine how rising costs are affecting food safety along the food supply chain; the challenges and benefits of food rescue; and the role alternative protein sources play. A panel of experts will join our last session to address questions on how to safely stretch our food dollars. \nSession 1: At what cost? Food safety and rising prices\nSession 2: Waste Not; Want Not: Food Diversion at Its Finest\nSession 3: Alternative proteins – Are we there yet?\nSession 4: How to Stretch your Food Dollar Safely – Q&A Session \nThe Symposium is free but registration is required. Register for as many sessions as you would like. Details can be found at: https://www.uoguelph.ca/foodscience/19th-annual-guelph-food-safety-seminars-symposium \nContact Dr. Susan Sabatini\, Food Science ssabatin@uoguelph.ca with any questions. \nThe Guelph Food Safety Seminars (GFSS) began in 2004 to provide a forum in which to share timely and pertinent food safety topics. The GFSS Organizing Committee plans seminars throughout the year and an annual symposium. Our objective is to bring together people from the Guelph Food Safety Network and others who are interested in the risk management approach to food quality and safety to learn\, educate\, illuminate\, and discuss issues of common interest and broaden networks. The GFSS is a partnership in agri-food safety: AAFC\, CFIA; CIPHI (Ontario); Health Canada; NSF International; OMAFRA; PHAC; University of Guelph (Department of Food Science and CRIFS).

SUMMARY:Process Intensification in AAV Gene Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Please join our masterclass panel of experts to discuss process intensification in AAV Gene Therapy. \nDemand for AAV vectors is rising with more than 550 adeno associated viral vector therapies being developed for the treatment of various disorders. As numerous biotech companies are planning to introduce these transformative gene therapies\, they find themselves struggling to access financially viable AAV manufacturing yields. \nIn this webinar Sarah Wootton\, Ph.D.\, (University of Guelph)\, Amine Kamen\, Ph.D.\, and Jean-Simon Diallo\, Ph.D. will explore current and new strategies for optimising the upstream AAV vector production process\, a vital first step towards advancing gene therapies to meet clinical and commercial yields. \nTune into this free webinar to learn about: \n\nAAV biology and its use in cell and gene therapies\nState-of-the-art production of cell and gene therapies\nCurrent process intensification methods: cell line and vector engineering\, media optimization\, and bioreactor design to increase yields\nNew strategies to properly attenuate anti-viral defences in the production system: viral sensitizer technology.\n\nLearn more at https://xtalks.com/webinars/process-intensification-in-aav-gene-therapy/

SUMMARY:Imagining a More Just University
DESCRIPTION:How can we create more just academic spaces that eliminate barriers to access and ensure equity for everyone in the University community? \nIn this hybrid event\, we will explore how to create more just academic spaces that reduce/eliminate barriers to access and ensure equity for everyone in the university community. We are interested in this topic generally\, and also specifically as it relates to the University of Guelph. \nCreating more just academic spaces has long been a critical topic\, but feels increasingly pressing as we navigate several overlapping injustices structured by the pandemic\, systemic racism and colonialism\, (hetero)sexism\, ableism and economic inequality\, among others. \nDrawing on expertise local to the University of Guelph and the surrounding communities\, this event will both illuminate specific challenges\, and imagine and discuss promising practices moving forward. Panelists will include: \n\nDr. Adam Davies (they/them)\, Family Relations and Applied Nutrition\nDr. Roberta Hawkins (she/her)\, Geography\, Environment and Geomatics\nOmorowa Eguakun (she/they)\, Ontario Public Interest Research Group – Guelph\nJena-Lee Ashley (she/her)\, Vice President External\, Central Student Association\nNicole Walker (she/her)\, President\, Central Student Association\n\nLearn more at https://csahs.uoguelph.ca/events/2022/11/imagining-more-just-university
