It also decreases the potential for injury due to repetitive strain in the workplace! \nStart your Monday off with ease and register now! https://uoguelph.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8bO03wXsigNdJGK \nAbout the facilitator\nMonique Vischschraper is an advanced\, certified yoga instructor with over a thousand hours of yoga teaching experience. Monique leads yoga at the Guelph Community Health Centre\, Movati\, and at the University of Guelph as part of the U of G Yoga and Meditation Collective. She is continually studying and upgrading her knowledge and skills. She enjoys learning about the anatomy\, physiology and science of yoga as well as studying the ancient yogic texts.

SUMMARY:2023 Marcel Ali Lecture in Aquatic Biology
DESCRIPTION:The College of Biological Science is proud to host Prof. Holly A. Shiels (Faculty of Biology\, Medicine and Health\, University of Manchester) as the keynote speaker of the 2023 Marcel Ali Lecture in Aquatic Biology. \nFrom Oil Spills to Air Pollution: The Heartbreak of PAHs\nPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) derive from fossil fuels and enter aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems where they are cardiotoxic. This seminar will begin with marine oil spills and the evidence pointing to the 3-ringed PAH – phenanthrene – as a key cardiotoxicant for fish and aquatic invertebrates. The data will show how exposure to this single but ubiquitous pollutant disrupts cellular function in cardiomyocytes leading to changes in whole organ function. These effects increase susceptibility to life-threatening arrhythmias and mechanistically link an abundant pollutant to cardiac health risk. As global levels of fossil-fuel based pollution continue to rise\, the vertebrate cardiotoxicity discussed here also serves as a portend for human health. \nJoin us in-person (ALEX 200) or online (https://zoom.us/j/95799778017?pwd=a21wbU1oUC9kWFRNbVVJOFU4RTh3QT09; Meeting ID: 957 9977 8017; Passcode: 402870) \nEVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND! \nFor questions about this event\, email tgillis@uoguelph.ca.

SUMMARY:Arboretum Workshop: Virtual Composting for Gardeners - Composting Piles\, Bins and Drums
DESCRIPTION:The previous workshop provided information about the composting process. This workshop is more hands on and looks at various methods for completing both hot and cold composting. Hot composting is the traditional method using one or more bins. This is a great system that makes faster compost\, but it is impractical for smaller gardens. Various plastic bins and drums are more suitable there. We’ll have a look at various commercial and DIY systems. \nAt the end of this course you will be able to select the right composting system that meets your requirements and you will know how to start the process\, care for it\, and what to do with the finished compost. \nIf you are going to take this course it is a good idea to also take Introduction to Composting for Gardeners. \nFee: $10 (plus HST) per person.
