SUMMARY:Film Screening Event : Unbranded
DESCRIPTION:OVC Film Screening Event : Unbranded\nHosted by Canadian Wild Horses\nThis event will be held November 24th from 6:30-9\,OVC Lifetime Learning Centre\, \n$10.00 at the door. There are only 150 seats available and they will be first come\, first serve.\nCanadian Wild Horses is continuing it’s mission to bring together like minded people and groups together to bring awareness and education to the plight of the wild horses and Critical Breeds of Canada by hosting a screening of Unbranded\, to benefit the wild horses of Alberta. “Four young Cowboys hatch an outrageous plot to adopt\, train\, and ride a string of wild mustangs 3\,000 miles from Mexico to Canada through the wildest terrain of the American West. The trip became an epic journey of self-discovery\, tested friendships\, and iconic landscapes that included runaway horses\, a sassy donkey\, perilous mountain passes\, rodeos\, sickness\, injury\, and death. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we stand together as a community of students\, faculty and staff\, in solidarity with those who experience suffering. In a time of increasing uncertainty\, here and around the world\, we need peace\, hope and understanding. \nHope and healing are difficult to achieve without space and time to acknowledge how we’ve been affected. It is important not only to reflect\, but to provide space for healing through dialogue and sharing. There will be various locations around campus following the vigil for us to meet\, share\, and talk. \nIt’s time to come together as one community with peace as a common goal. We stand in solidarity with each other and with the world. \nBranion Plaza

SUMMARY:Animal Behaviour and Welfare Seminar: The Rise of Genetics
DESCRIPTION:Historian Margaret Derry presents “The Rise of Genetics and its Impact on Breeding in the Chicken\, Dairy and Beef Industries.” \nDerry is interested in how animal breeding has been practiced in the past. She has written numerous books focusing on animals\, breeding and animal ethics. Her book\, Masterminding Nature: the Breeding of Animals\, has a chapter on ethical concerns\, historically speaking\, and livestock industries. Some topics she has covered are calf killing and the dairy industry in the 19th century\, the problem of veal calf care\, dehorning cattle in the 19th century and today\, sexing livestock\, chick killing and the egg industry. She is also working on a book that assesses patterns in purebred breeding that resist attempts to eliminate genetic defects. \nLocation: OVC Lifetime Learning Centre\, Room 1715
