SUMMARY:South Residence 50th Birthday Party
DESCRIPTION:When the University of Guelph consolidated its colleges to form the new campus in 1964\, enrolment boomed and the need for new accommodation space became a priority. Planning began for a massive new residential complex\, named “Complex B” in 1966. Australian architect John Andrews (who also designed the CN Tower and Scarborough College) was hired as lead architect. The unique design of what is now known as South Residence is considered one of his signature works\, and is the largest student residential building in Canada.  The building opened in 1969. \n On Wednesday\, April 3\, 2019 at 7 p.m. we are celebrating the 50th Birthday of South Residence with a “Mountain Pizza” pizza party and cake.  Everyone is invited to attend!  \nThe event will be held in the Eccles Centre (attached to Maritime Hall).  Drop in between 7 and 9 p.m.  There will be brief welcoming remarks and a “History of South Residence” presentation by Wilfred Ferwerda\, Physical Resources\, and Nicole Smith beginning at 7:30 p.m. \n More information can be found at  http://housing.uoguelph.ca/south50
