SUMMARY:2019 Hammond Lecture: Threats to Environmental Sustainability in an Increasingly Populist Climate
DESCRIPTION:At the 2019 Hammond Lecture\, Sarah Burch will discuss “Threats to Environmental Sustainability in an Increasingly Populist Climate”. \nBurch holds the Canada Research Chair in Sustainability Governance and Innovation. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management\, University of Waterloo. She is an expert in transformative responses to climate change at the community scale\, innovative strategies for making progress on sustainability\, and the unique contributions that small businesses can make to solving this complex challenge. She is a lead author of the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007)\, and was named one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in 2018. \nThe Hammond Lecture Series began in 2000 in honour of Kenneth Hammond\, founder of Hammond Manufacturing and former member of U of G’s Board of Governors. Hammond was an advocate of environmental and resource issues and environmental education.
