SUMMARY:Data Analysis Workshop – R Part 2: Data Manipulation in R using dplyr and tidyr
DESCRIPTION:R is a programming language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. This workshop will introduce you to the dplyr package which makes tabular data manipulations easier by using a set of functions to extract and summarize insights from your data. The tidyr package works well with tidyr to quickly convert between different data formats (long v. wide) for graphing and analysis. \nThis workshop builds upon the material presented in Part 1: Into R and RStudio. This is not an introductory workshop and requires participants to have taken Part 1 or have experience with R. Please bring a laptop for your own use during the workshop. \nBefore attending the workshop\, please complete the following: \n\nDownload and Install R\n\nWindows User: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/\nMac User: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/\n\n\nInstall RStudio Desktop: https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/\n\nWhat is R used for? Introduction to RStudio basics (5 min): https://youtu.be/SWxoJqTqo08?t=26s \nPlease note: All software installation must be done before the workshop. Please ensure you follow account creation or software installation instructions. Out of courtesy to the class\, we will not be able to troubleshoot software set up during the class time. If you have any issues\, please contact the IT Help Desk. \nRegister online.

SUMMARY:Writing in the Sciences Workshop: A Song of Ice and Fire
DESCRIPTION:This workshop series is designed to help you improve your scientific writing skills. If you’re a graduate student working on a thesis or an undergraduate student interested in graduate-level research\, these workshops are for you. Register for one session or register for all six. \nWinter is coming\, and you need to write that scientific paper. But do you feel you know nothing about writing an engaging science paper? \nIf so\, come explore how the Game of Thrones character\, Daenerys\, develops from an abused sister into a powerful Queen who proclaims\, “I am the dragon’s daughter\, and I swear to you that those who would harm you will die screaming.” Learn the story techniques behind her enthralling development and then apply the techniques to your scientific writing. Afterward\, your writing will stick ’em with the pointy end and captivate your reader. \nRegister online.
