SUMMARY:Food Science Seminar - A Scientist Walks Into a Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Food Science Seminar guest speaker César Vega discusses non-obvious culinary uses of garlic. For those of us with a sweet tooth\, the addition of garlic to nougat\, angel food cake\, soufflés and mousses is nothing short of counterintuitive. It is in this\, non-obvious culinary use of garlic\, that the beauty of science makes us transform the kitchen into a laboratory. \nRozanski Hall\, Room 102

SUMMARY:Winegard Lecture in Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability and global clean tech expert Chris Turner presents “Tracking the Global Energy Transition” at the 2018 Winegard Lecture in Engineering. \nThe global economy is undergoing its greatest transformation since the dawn of the industrial age as it shifts from an energy regime built on fossil fuels to one run by clean\, renewable power. Award-winning author and sustainability strategist Chris Turner has been documenting this energy transition for more than a decade. His presentation combines insights from his bestselling books on the clean tech revolution\, The Leap and The Geography of Hope\, as well as analysis of the transition’s impact on the conventional energy economy drawn from his most recent book\, The Patch. Turner explains where the energy transition leads\, what our energy future looks like\, and what it means for the strategic decisions businesses and organizations need to make to survive and thrive in the new energy economy. \nRichards Building\, Room 2529
